Background of the Study
Climate change is one of the most pressing global challenges, with far-reaching implications for environmental sustainability, public health, and economic development. In Argungu Local Government Area (LGA), Kebbi State, the effects of climate change are evident in rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, and declining agricultural productivity. Media reporting plays a crucial role in raising awareness and driving action to mitigate these impacts. However, the complexity of climate change, coupled with limited resources and expertise, often hinders effective reporting. Studies by Ibrahim and Ahmed (2023) emphasize the need for accurate, engaging, and localized reporting to bridge knowledge gaps and inspire community-driven solutions. 1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing impact of climate change in Argungu LGA, media coverage remains inadequate and inconsistent. Factors such as limited access to data, lack of training among journalists, and low public interest contribute to this gap. Research by Musa and Abdullahi (2024) highlights that poor reporting undermines public understanding of climate change and hampers efforts to address its effects. This study investigates the challenges faced by media practitioners in reporting climate change in Argungu LGA, providing insights into how these barriers can be overcome.
